Hi everyone! My name is Marla Wilson, and I’m the Executive Director of our STEM Careers Coalition at Discovery Education. In case you’re unfamiliar, our STEM Careers Coalition is a first-of-its-kind initiative powered by corporate leaders to impact the culture of STEM education in K – 12 schools nationwide.
You can explore career videos of real-world STEM professionals, plus a special series highlighting solution seekers who have pivoted their STEM skills to help contribute to the global effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. You can also check out STEM activities, career videos, Virtual Field Trips and challenges in our all-new STEM Careers Channel in Discovery Education Experience.
Why am I telling you all about this? Because today is NATIONAL STEM DAY! I might be biased…but it’s definitely the best day of the year. To celebrate, we’re hosting a live professional learning event on Tuesday, 11/10 at 4PM ET. Join us for a virtual tour of the nearly 150 resources available through the STEM Careers Coalition. During this webinar, you will learn ways to engage students at all learning levels in critical real-world challenges using a variety of new STEM Careers Coalition resources, including interactive investigations, career profiles and family design challenges.
Also this week, we have some amazing new Virtual Field Trips premiering. We’re taking another trip to Canada for the annual polar bear migration and want you to join us on either Tuesday or Thursday! From the migration patterns of polar bears to the northern lights, the Arctic is filled with fascinating phenomena.
On Thursday, we’re also premiering a brand new Virtual Field Trip with our partners at Unilever that’s all about body positivity. Students can hear from other peers about how they can appreciate their bodies and help build strategies to tackle weight-based bullying. Visit our Curiosity page on discoveryeducation.com to learn more and register!
We have TONS of exciting activities this week that we’ll hope you join us for! Let us know what you’ll be checking out by tweeting us at @DiscoveryEd. See you next week!
